 2022 Preview 


       Muscle Shoals completed the 2021 season with a 9-2 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region eight, the Trojans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Muscle Shoals's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Pinson Valley by a score of 28-21.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Muscle Shoals has gone a combined 116-32. Their 78.4% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Muscle Shoals has managed to compile a record of 173-109. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 6A and 87th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2008.




       The Trojans are led by head coach Scott Basden who is entering his fifteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 127-43 over the past fourteen seasons at Muscle Shoals. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times. They have won five region crowns with Coach Basden.

       Coach Basden's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-two season stands at 196-72 (73.1%). His 196 wins rank 15th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Basden's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty times and won eight region championships. He has a 32-19 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Basden won a state championship at Cordova in 2007.

       Coach Basden needs four wins this season to reach the coveted 200 win milestone.

       The Muscle Shoals Trojans will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Trojans remain in 6A but move from region eight over to region seven.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Muscle Shoals has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Trojans should be considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Trojans have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2008 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Trojans open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Bob Jones on Thursday, August 18 at Madison City Schools Stadium. Last year the Bob Jones Patriots finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in second place in Class 7A region four. The Patriots lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Hewitt-Trussville by a score of 42-20.

       Muscle Shoals and Bob Jones have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 4-1-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2019 with Muscle Shoals winning by a score of 46-19.

       Muscle Shoals returns 6A All-State Senior kicker Trey Stoddard. He was named to the second team last season.
