North Sand Mountain completed the 2021 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region seven, the Bison earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. North Sand Mountain's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Midfield by a score of 34-20. North Sand Mountain took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2014. The Bison lost as many games as in any season since 2014. The Bison hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 11-2 record in 2020. North Sand Mountain was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bison want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.9 points a game. Since 2010, North Sand Mountain has gone a combined 84-52. Their 61.8% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, North Sand Mountain has managed to compile a record of 125-142. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 2A and 217th in the AHSAA. The Bison are led by head coach Keith Kirby who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 46-24 over the past six seasons at North Sand Mountain. Under his direction the Bison have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach Kirby. Coach Kirby's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 46-24 (65.7%). The North Sand Mountain Bison will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2022 season. The Bison have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 61-47 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 2A and 76th in the AHSAA. With a little luck and some improvement, the Bison could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. They have managed to qualify for the playoffs every year since 2014 and hopes are high to extend that streak. The Bison open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Valley Head on Friday, August 19 at Lloyds Dobbins Field. Last year the Valley Head Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in second place in Class 1A region seven. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Ragland by a score of 28-20. North Sand Mountain and Valley Head have met a total of 19 times on the football field.
