2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Oak Grove finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Oak Grove just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region five with a 2-4 region record. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Oak Grove was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.9 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Oak Grove has gone a combined 38-83. Their 31.4% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Oak Grove has managed to compile a record of 117-143. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 4A and 241st in the AHSAA. The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Chris Musso as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Musso arrives in Oak Grove after serving as the head football coach at Haleyville last season. Coach Musso's overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 72-75 (49.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Musso's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times . The Oak Grove Tigers will play in Class 4A region five during the 2022 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season. Oak Grove has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2010 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Tigers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent White Plains on Friday, August 26 at Robertson Field. Last year the White Plains Wildcats finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 4A region four. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Pleasant Valley by a score of 27-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Oak Grove and White Plains have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-0-0 record against the Wildcats.
