2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dora completed the 2021 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region six, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Dora's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Brooks by a score of 41-21. The Bulldogs improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2017. The Bulldogs had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points. The defense was very stingy last season as Dora ranked 37th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.7 points a game. Since 2010, Dora has gone a combined 65-69. Their 48.5% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Dora has managed to compile a record of 130-145. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 4A and 224th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Chavis Williams who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at Dora. The Bulldogs saw improvement from a 5-6 record the season before coach Williams arrived. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Williams. Coach Williams' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 14-18 (43.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Williams' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Dora Bulldogs will play in Class 4A region five during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 4A but move from region six over to region five. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Bulldogs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Bulldogs open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Winfield on Thursday, August 18 at Horace Roberts Field. Last year the Winfield Pirates finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 3A region six. The Pirates lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Piedmont by a score of 43-14. Dora and Winfield have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 1-3-0 record against the Pirates. They last met in 2017 with Dora winning by a score of 17-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
