2022 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Southern Choctaw finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Southern Choctaw finished sixth in Class 1A region two with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 329 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Southern Choctaw averaged scoring just 13.4 points a game. The Indians would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-17 record. Since 2010, Southern Choctaw has gone a combined 61-65. Their 48.4% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Southern Choctaw has managed to compile a record of 175-109. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 1A and 76th in the AHSAA. The Indians are led by head coach Jeremy Noland who is entering his fourteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 65-71 over the past thirteen seasons at Southern Choctaw. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach Noland. Coach Noland's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 65-71 (47.8%). The Southern Choctaw Indians will play in Class 1A region one during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Indians remain in 1A but move from region two over to region one. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. It will be an uphill battle for the Indians if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just 2 wins last year, Southern Choctaw will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Indians open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent J.U. Blacksher on Friday, August 26 at The Reservation. Last year the J.U. Blacksher Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 2A region one. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Isabella by a score of 40-6. Southern Choctaw and J.U. Blacksher have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Indians have a 4-4-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2019 with J.U. Blacksher winning by a score of 23-20. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
