2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
St. John Paul II finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year St. John Paul II finished eighth in Class 4A region seven with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as St. John Paul II averaged scoring just 7.8 points a game. The Falcons would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. St. John Paul II is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only ten seasons. They have managed a record of 24-77 over the past ten years. Over the past 10 seasons, St. John Paul II has not won much with a record of 24-77. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 59th in Class 4A and 375th in the AHSAA. The Falcons have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. The Falcons will be under the direction of new head football coach Michael Harper as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Harper served as an assistant coach on the staff at Lynn last season. Coach Harper's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%). Once again the Falcons will be rebuilding under their seventh head football coach in the last nine seasons. The St. John Paul II Falcons will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Falcons remain in 4A but move from region seven over to region eight. The Falcons enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 15 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Falcons will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at St. John Paul II will be to simply win some games. The Falcons open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Westbrook Christian on Friday, August 19 at Discovery Middle School. Last year the Westbrook Christian Warriors finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 2A region six. The Warriors ended last season on a positive note with a win over Donoho by a score of 37-26 after failing to gain a playoff spot. St. John Paul II and Westbrook Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 0-2-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in with St. John Paul II returns 4A All-State Senior kicker Steven Taylor. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
