2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Washington County finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Washington County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region one with a 2-4 region record. The defense allowed a team record 457 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Washington County averaged scoring just 6.8 points a game. The Bulldogs also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 45.7 points a game. The Bulldogs would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Washington County has gone a combined 85-56. Their 60.3% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Washington County has managed to compile a record of 181-108. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 2A and 74th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs will be under the direction of new head football coach Johnny Carpenter as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Carpenter's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 16-16 (50.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Carpenter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Washington County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region one during the 2022 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Bulldogs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just 2 wins last year, Washington County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Bulldogs open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Marengo on Friday, August 19 at Jordan Wilcox Stadium. Last year the Marengo Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in third place in Class 1A region two. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Notasulga by a score of 45-16. Washington County and Marengo have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 3-3-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 1999 with Marengo winning by a score of 20-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
