2022 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Appalachian finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-8 record. Last year Appalachian finished sixth in Class 1A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Appalachian was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.1 points a game. The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-15 record. Since 2010, Appalachian has gone a combined 39-78. Their 33.3% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Appalachian has managed to compile a record of 107-150. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A and 267th in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Neal Whittington who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-8 record in his first season at Appalachian. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Whittington. Coach Whittington's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 1-8 (11.1%). The Appalachian Eagles will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2022 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just a single win last year, Appalachian will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Eagles open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Locust Fork on Thursday, August 18 at Pate Field. Last year the Locust Fork Hornets finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 2A region six. The Hornets closed out the regular season with a loss to J.B. Pennington by a score of 28-7. Appalachian and Locust Fork have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 2-14-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2021 with Locust Fork winning by a score of 34-19. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
