2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Blount finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Blount finished sixth in Class 6A region one with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Blount took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2010. The Leopards lost as many games as in any season since 2005. The Leopards hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 8-5 record in 2020. Blount was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Leopards want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.1 points a game. Since 2010, Blount has gone a combined 87-49. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Blount has managed to compile a record of 158-119. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 6A and 122nd in the AHSAA. The Leopards will be under the direction of new head football coach Josh Harris as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Harris was at Scarborough M.S. last season. The Leopards will start the season with their third new head football coach in as many seasons. The Blount Leopards will play in Class 6A region one during the 2022 season. The Leopards have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 77-42 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 6A and 6th in the AHSAA. Blount will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. It will be an uphill battle for the Leopards if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. The Leopards open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Vigor on Friday, August 19 at Harris-Terry Stadium. Last year the Vigor Wolves finished with an overall record of 14-1 and in first place in Class 4A region one. The Wolves won the Class 4A State Championship last season when they defeated Oneonta by a score of 52-14 in the Super Seven finals in Birmingham. Blount and Vigor have met a total of 53 times on the football field. The Leopards have a 14-39-0 record against the Wolves. They last met in 2021 with Vigor winning by a score of 22-13. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
