2022 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Choctaw County finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Choctaw County finished seventh in Class 1A region two with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2003 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Choctaw County averaged scoring just 9.0 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-16 record. Since 2010, the Choctaw County football program has struggled with a record of 20-96. Over the past 25 seasons, Choctaw County has not won much with a record of 61-186. Their 25.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 1A and 372nd in the AHSAA. The Tigers have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2001. The Tigers are led by head coach Kendrick Office who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-7 record in his first season at Choctaw County. The Tigers saw improvement from a 0-9 record the season before coach Office arrived. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Office. Coach Office's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-7 (22.2%). The Choctaw County Tigers will play in Class 1A region one during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 1A but move from region two over to region one. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. The Tigers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Linden on Thursday, August 18 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Linden Patriots finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in second place in Class 1A region three. The Patriots lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Maplesville by a score of 22-15. Choctaw County and Linden have met a total of 36 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 15-20-1 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2017 with Linden winning by a score of 60-0. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
