 2022 Preview 


       Decatur completed the 2021 season with a 4-7 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region eight, the Red Raiders earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Decatur's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Clay-Chalkville by a score of 42-0.

       It marked the first time since the 2018 season that the Red Raiders qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Decatur has gone a combined 68-64. Their 51.5% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Decatur has managed to compile a record of 174-111. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 6A and 88th in the AHSAA.




       The Red Raiders are led by head coach Jere Adcock who is entering his twenty-seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 178-117 over the past twenty-six seasons at Decatur. Under his direction the Red Raiders have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty times. They have won seven region crowns with Coach Adcock.

       Coach Adcock's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-six season stands at 178-117 (60.3%). His 178 wins rank 18th among active coaches in the AHSAA.

       The Decatur Red Raiders will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Red Raiders remain in 6A but move from region eight over to region seven.

       The Red Raiders will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season.

       The Red Raiders open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Mae Jemison on Friday, August 19 at Louis Crews Stadium. Last year the Mae Jemison Jaguars finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class 5A region eight. The Jaguars closed out the regular season with a loss to Pell City by a score of 50-26.

In 1970 Monroe Academy won the first championship in the A.I.S.A. by defeating Lowndes Academy 6-0.
