2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
J.F. Shields finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year J.F. Shields just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region three with a 2-4 region record. The Panthers last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as J.F. Shields averaged scoring just 3.5 points a game. Since 2010, the J.F. Shields football program has struggled with a record of 15-72. Over the past 22 seasons, J.F. Shields has not won much with a record of 52-165. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 1A and 376th in the AHSAA. The Panthers have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2001. The Panthers will be under the direction of new head football coach Amari Dubose as they enter the 2022 season. The J.F. Shields Panthers will play in Class 1A region one during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 1A but move from region three over to region one. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. With a little luck and some improvement, the Panthers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. J.F. Shields came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. J.F. Shields simply does not have the numbers to be competitive on the football field at this time. With just 56 students, the Panthers are one of the smallest schools playing the game and have little chance of being successful. The Panthers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent J.U. Blacksher on Thursday, August 18 at Panther Field (The Pit). Last year the J.U. Blacksher Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 2A region one. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Isabella by a score of 40-6. J.F. Shields and J.U. Blacksher have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 6-14-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2015 with J.U. Blacksher winning by a score of 76-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
