2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mary Montgomery finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Mary Montgomery finished ninth in Class 7A region one with a 0-8 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Vikings have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2002 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Mary Montgomery averaged scoring just 9.3 points a game. The Vikings also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 37.0 points a game. The Vikings would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Mary Montgomery football program has struggled with a record of 30-90. Over the past 25 seasons, Mary Montgomery has not won much with a record of 80-171. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 7A and 340th in the AHSAA. The Vikings have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Vikings will be under the direction of new head football coach Zach Golson as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Golson served as the offensive coordinator at Daphne last season. Coach Golson's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 14-21 (40.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Golson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . There will be a lot of new faces as the Vikings take to the sidelines this season trying to improve on last years 0-10 record. The Vikings have over 100 players out for football this fall. The Mary Montgomery Vikings will play in Class 7A region one during the 2022 season. The Vikings enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Vikings will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Mary Montgomery will be to simply win some games. The Vikings open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Williamson on Friday, August 19 at Grider Field. Last year the Williamson Lions finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 4A region one. The Lions lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to American Christian by a score of 41-12. Mary Montgomery and Williamson have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Vikings have a 3-5-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2009 with Williamson winning by a score of 38-13. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
