 2022 Preview 


       Oneonta completed the 2021 season with a 13-2 record. Last year Oneonta captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Redskins since the 2014 season. The Redskins won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 4A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Vigor at the Alabama Super Seven 52-14 in Birmingham.

       The Redskins won as many games as in any season since 2013. The Redskins hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Phillips saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 7-5 record in 2020.

       Since 2010, Oneonta has gone a combined 106-47. Their 69.3% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Oneonta has gone a combined 208-99. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 4A and 50th in the AHSAA.




       The Redskins are led by head coach Phil Phillips who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 38-15 over the past four seasons at Oneonta. Under his direction the Redskins have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Phillips.

       Coach Phillips' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 38-15 (71.7%).

       The Oneonta Redskins will play in Class 4A region six during the 2022 season.

       The Redskins enter the 2022 season riding a 7 game regular season winning streak.

       The Redskins should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Redskins are making another deep run into the playoffs.

       The Redskins open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Cleveland on Friday, August 19 at Michal Dixon Memorial Stadium. Last year the Cleveland Panthers finished with an overall record of 12-3 and in second place in Class 2A region six. The Panthers lost in the Class 2A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Clarke County. They final score was 49-41 in the Super Seven finals in Birmingham.

       Oneonta and Cleveland have met a total of 45 times on the football field. The Redskins have a 35-6-4 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2021 with Oneonta winning by a score of 41-20.

Alabama School for the Deaf won Deaf School National Championships in 1971, 1987, 1991, 2000, 2001 and 2002.
