2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lanett completed the 2022 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region three, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Lanett's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to B.B. Comer by a score of 45-20. Lanett took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2014. The Panthers lost as many games as in any season since 2011. The Panthers hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just five games which followed a 10-3 record in 2021. Since 2010, Lanett has gone a combined 108-45. Their 70.6% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lanett has managed to compile a record of 176-111. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 2A and 85th in the AHSAA. The Panthers will be under the direction of new head football coach Chip Seagle as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Seagle is a graduate of Troy State University. Coach Seagle has previously coached at Dothan High School, Smiths Station, Carroll, Goshen, Muscle Shoals, and most recently at the Heritage School in Newnan. Coach Seagle will have some huge shoes to fill with Clifford Story moving on for his position at Lanett. The Panthers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. They have managed to qualify for the playoffs every year since 2015 and hopes are high to extend that streak. The Panthers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Notasulga on Friday, August 25 at Blue Devils Stadium. Last year the Notasulga Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 1-8 and in seventh place in Class 1A region four. Lanett and Notasulga have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 13-0-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2022 with Lanett winning by a score of 27-0. Lanett lost 2A All-State defensive lineman Taysean Darden to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
