 2023 Preview 


       Straughn completed the 2022 season with a 7-4 record. With their 6-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region two, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Straughn's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Thomasville by a score of 20-9.

       Since 2010, Straughn has gone a combined 77-66. Their 53.8% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Straughn has managed to compile a record of 162-119. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 3A and 103rd in the AHSAA.




       The Tigers are led by head coach Ashley Kilcrease who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-8 over the past two seasons at Straughn. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Kilcrease. Over the course of his career, Coach Kilcrease's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won two region championships.

       The Tigers have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region two this season.

       The Tigers open the 2023 season on the road against region opponent Pike County on Friday, September 1 at Bulldog Stadium. Last year the Pike County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in fourth place in Class 3A region two. The Bulldogs lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Mobile Christian by a score of 27-7.

       Straughn and Pike County have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 4-7-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Straughn winning by a score of 20-19.

      

       The Tigers return 3A All-State Senior defensive back Parker Black. He was named to the second team last season. The Tigers also return Senior offensive lineman Jesse Ellisor. He was named to the honorable mention team.
