 2024 Preview 


       Oak Mountain finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Oak Mountain finished eighth in Class 7A region three with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The defense allowed a team record 384 points last season.

       Oak Mountain was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.0 points a game.

       Oak Mountain struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.4 points a game.

       The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Oak Mountain has gone a combined 62-86. Their 41.9% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Oak Mountain has managed to compile a record of 114-148. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 7A and 244th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Eagles are led by head coach Shane McComb who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Oak Mountain. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach McComb.

Season Outlook:

       The Oak Mountain Eagles will play in Class 7A region three during the 2024 season.

       The Eagles have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 67-48 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 7A and 59th in the AHSAA.

       The Eagles enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       Head football coach Shane McComb did not make the splash he wanted in his first season at Oak Mountain after arriving from California. A 1-9 season is the worst the Eagles have suffered through since their initial year in the AHSAA back in 1999

    This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      Will O'Dell will return at QB in 2024 after completing 93-of-187 passes for 880 yards last season. He also ran for another 726 yards and 12 TDs.

Season Opener:
       The Eagles open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Briarwood on Friday, August 23 at Heardmont Park Sportsplex/Eagle Stadium. Last year the Briarwood Lions finished with an overall record of 6-6 and in third place in Class 6A region three. The Lions lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Saraland by a score of 51-14.

       Oak Mountain and Briarwood have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 3-4-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2023 with Briarwood winning by a score of 21-0.
