2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Stanhope Elmore finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Stanhope Elmore just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region two with a 2-4 region record. The Mustangs lost as many games as in any season since 2015. Since 2010, Stanhope Elmore has gone a combined 74-75. Their 49.7% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Stanhope Elmore has managed to compile a record of 155-119. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 6A and 110th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Mustangs are led by head coach Hunter Adams who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Stanhope Elmore. The Mustangs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Adams. Season Outlook: The Stanhope Elmore Mustangs will play in Class 6A region two during the 2024 season. Only three opponents on the Mustang's 2024 schedule qualified for the playoffs last season. Only two schools from Region 3, Helena and Benjamin Russell, got in. What does that mean for the Mustangs? They have finished fifth the past three seasons so if they can win just one more region game in 2024 they will make a post season appearance for the first time since the 2020 football season. Their non-region schedule is soft with games against Marbury, Prattville, Smiths Station and Calera. Those teams had a combined record of 6-35 last season. The Mustangs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Stanhope Elmore has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2020 but hope to return to the post season this year. Players to Watch in 2024: RB Arthur McQueen will be returning for his senior season after rushing for 1,128 yards and 5 TDs last season. Returning Starters: MLB Kamran Anderson, P/K Colby Beyer Season Opener: The Mustangs open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Marbury on Friday, August 23 at Foshee-Henderson Stadium. Last year the Marbury Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 2-9 and in third place in Class 5A region three. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Charles Henderson by a score of 64-20. Stanhope Elmore and Marbury have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 3-0-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2013 with Stanhope Elmore winning by a score of 48-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
