2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Central completed the 2023 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Central just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region four with a 3-4 region record. The Falcons improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2015. The Falcons won as many games as in any season since 2015. Since 2010, the Central football program has struggled with a record of 42-101. Over the past 25 seasons, Central has managed to compile a record of 97-161. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 6A and 298th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Falcons are led by head coach Demario Pippin who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-5 record in his first season at Central. The Falcons saw improvement from a 2-8 record the season before coach Pippin arrived. The Falcons have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Pippin. Season Outlook: The Central Falcons will play in Class 6A region four during the 2024 season. A 5-5 break even season last year was an improvement over the past eight years for the Falcons. They were much better on offense scoring more points than in any season since 2008. Only three teams in Region 4 made the playoffs last year. Only a single team won more than six games. What does that all mean for the Central Falcons? It might mean they have a shot at one of the four playoff spots available in 2024. The Falcons return seven players to the offense and three on the defense according to head football coach Demario Pippen. Several newcomers will be looked upon early in the season to contribute. The Falcons have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region four this season. Central has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2018 but hope to return to the post season this year. Players to Watch in 2024: Anthony Dixon returns at RB after rushing for 340 yards as a freshman last season. Also back will be safety Jasiuah Rainer who collected 82 tackles (60 solo) and a sack as a sophomore. Returning Starters: NEWCOMERS: Jaelon Bramlett CB, Armani White QB, Trayvon Hall WR Season Opener: The Falcons open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Tuscaloosa County on Friday, August 23 at Wildcat Field. Last year the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in sixth place in Class 7A region three. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brookwood by a score of 42-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Central and Tuscaloosa County have met a total of 32 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 16-16-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2023 with Tuscaloosa County winning by a score of 24-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
