2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Elba completed the 2023 season with a 13-1 record. The Tigers cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Elba captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 8-0 record. Elba made a nice playoff run in 2023, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Leroy team by the score of 27-24. The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2015. The high-scoring Elba offense ranked 4th in the AHSAA. They averaged 49.1 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Tigers have Finished 24-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Elba has gone a combined 141-34. Their 80.6% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Elba has finished a combined 199-94. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 1A and 59th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2006. Graduated All-State Players: Elba lost 1A All-State offensive lineman Jamal Siler to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates kicker Alex Wisecup, defensive back Cameron Gray and offensive lineman Kaleb Mitchell. Head Coach: The Tigers are led by head coach Marc Sieving who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 40-8 over the past four seasons at Elba. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Sieving. Season Outlook: The Elba Tigers will play in Class 1A region two during the 2024 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 61-50 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 1A and 96th in the AHSAA. The Tigers enter the 2024 season riding a 27 game regular season winning streak. They have won 7 straight games on their home turf at Tiger Stadium. What do you think the Tigers will do on offense in 2024? A safe bet would be that they will ''run da ball''. Behind all-world running back Alvin Henderson why would you do anything else. As long as Henderson stays healthy the Tigers will be a threat to win it all in 1A this season. His numbers are staggering the past couple of years. He ran for 3,523 yards and a state record 61 TDs in 2023. Their 27 game regular season winning streak could be in jeopardy early in the season with games against Luverne and Glenwood School to open the season. If they get past those two opponents the streak should be safe for another year. The Tigers return five starters to the offense and five on defense in 2024. A group of newcomers will be looked to for added support early in the upcoming season. The Elba Tigers have reached the playoffs in 16 of the past 17 seasons and this year will be no different. They have won region championships the past three seasons and there is no reason to believe they will not win another one in 2024. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Elba has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Tigers are considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Tigers are making another deep run into the playoffs. Players to Watch in 2024: RB Alvin Henderson will return after rushing for 3,523 yards and 61 TDs last season as a junior. RB Cayden Adkins will also be back after rushing for 1,023 yards and 8 TDs in 2023. Adkins also had 120 tackles (81 solo) on defense. LB Jacob Watkins collected 119 tackles (66 solo) on defense and will be returning. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: Alvin Henderson - RB, Cayden Adkins - RB, Logan Horton - OL, Emmanuel Cooks - OL, Jacob Watkins - Blocking Back, DEFENSE: Emmanuel Cooks - DL, Cayden Adkins - LB, Jacob Watkins - LB, Brady Johnson - DB, Jacob Ledbetter - DB NEWCOMERS: Trai Davis - WR/DB Micheal Remley - OL/DL, Hakeem Scott - TE/DL, Cassidy Carpenter - RB/LB, Jerrod Anderson - DB, Elijah Myrick - OL Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Luverne on Friday, August 23 at Glenn Daniel Stadium. Last year the Luverne Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 2A region three. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Cottonwood by a score of 26-8. Elba and Luverne have met a total of 75 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 43-31-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Luverne winning by a score of 20-4. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
