2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Falkville completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Falkville just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region eight with a 2-4 region record. Since 2010, Falkville has gone a combined 81-70. Their 53.6% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Falkville has managed to compile a record of 118-147. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 2A and 249th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Blue Devils are led by head coach Seth Ward who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-17 over the past three seasons at Falkville. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ward. Season Outlook: The Falkville Blue Devils will play in Class 2A region six during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Blue Devils remain in 2A but move from region eight over to region six. The Blue Devils started last season 3-0 before faltering the last seven games to finish 4-6 and just missing out on the playoffs with a fifth place finish. With the addition of Coosa Christian and Susan Moore to their region the chances for a playoff spot will be even tougher. The Blue Devils could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Falkville came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Landon Powers will be returning for his senior season after completing 67-of-146 passes for 1,149 yards and 12 TDs last season. He also gained 412 yards running the ball. RB Denver Comstock will also be back after rushing for 589 yards and 4 TDs last season as a junior. Returning Starters: RB/FS Brodie Bennett, WR/FS Dawson Fowler, CB/MLB Cash Lawrimore Season Opener: The Blue Devils open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Vinemont on Friday, August 23 at Eagle Stadium. Last year the Vinemont Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 3A region seven. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Sylvania by a score of 41-0. Falkville and Vinemont have met a total of 46 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 20-26-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2023 with Falkville winning by a score of 26-20. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
