2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Glenwood School completed the 2023 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Glenwood School captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class AAA playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Glenwood School reached the AISA-AAA Championship and was defeated by Lee-Scott Academy by a score of 24-14. The defense was very stingy last season as Glenwood School ranked 36th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.6 points a game. Since 2010, Glenwood School has gone a combined 95-68. Their 58.3% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Glenwood School has managed to compile a record of 162-119. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 3A and 113rd in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: The Gators lost a ton of talent to graduation off the 2023 squad. Replacing these players will be a key to another successful season. Glenwood School lost AISA All-State quarterback Dallas Crow to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates defensive lineman Wes Graham, linebacker Lamont Burton, receiver Camden White, kicker Griffin Montroy and defensive back Thet Morris. Head Coach: The Gators are led by head coach Ryan Nelson who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 18-6 over the past two seasons at Glenwood School. Under his direction the Gators have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Nelson. Season Outlook: The Glenwood School Gators will play in Class 3A region four during the 2024 season. The Gators have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 79-37 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 3A and 4th in the AHSAA. The Gators enter the 2024 season having won 11 straight region games. They have won 11 straight games on their home turf at The Swamp. The Glenwood Gators will open play in the AHSAA for the first time in 2024. They will do it without the services of last year's starting quarterback Dallas Crow who threw for 1,1817 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also ran for 825 yards and 12 TDs. The Gators lost to Lee-Scott Academy the last two seasons in the AISA state championship game so it may not be a huge stretch of the imagination for the to be competitive right away in the AHSAA. With the AHSAA realignment region 4 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Four of those teams won at least 10 games. Someone will be left out of the post season come November. The Gators should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2013 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024. Players to Watch in 2024: RB Carter Judah will be back after rushing for 881 yards and 9 TDs last season. RB Josiah Clark will also be returning after rushing for 450 yards and 3 TDs last season. Returning Starters: RB Carter Judah, RB Josiah Clark, QB Trey Claridy, WR Hudson Campbell, QB/FS Levi Pinder, WR Mason McCraine, WR Cal Lawrence, WR Kade Cox, LB Andrew Wilkinson, LB Gray Garner, LB Trent Gilliland, DB Tanner Pickering Season Opener: The Gators open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Valley on Friday, August 23 at The Swamp. Last year the Valley Rams finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 5A region four. The Rams lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to B.C. Rain by a score of 34-22. This will be the second meeting between Glenwood School and Valley on the football field. The Gators have a 1-0-0 record against the Rams.
