 2024 Preview

Phillips finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Phillips finished sixth in Class 1A region eight with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Phillips Bear Creek averaged scoring just 13.1 points a game. The Bears also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 41.7 points a game.

Since 2010, Phillips has gone a combined 63-85. Their 42.6% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Phillips has managed to compile a record of 106-156. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A and 286th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
The Bears are led by head coach Adam Lawler who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-33 over the past five seasons at Phillips. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lawler.

Season Outlook:

The Phillips Bears will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Bears remain in 1A but move from region eight over to region seven.

The Bears of Phillips dropped off a little last year and will be looking to get back to the playoffs in 2024. The offense will need to score more points to keep them in the games.

The Bears will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just 2 wins last year, Phillips will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

Season Opener:
The Bears open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Marion County on Friday, August 30 at Don Jones Field at Bill Rayburn Staduim. Last year the Marion County Red Raiders finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region five. The Red Raiders lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Hackleburg by a score of 47-8.

Phillips and Marion County have met a total of 58 times on the football field. The Bears have a 8-47-3 record against the Red Raiders. They last met in 2021 with Marion County winning by a score of 40-12.
