 2024 Preview 


       Pike Road completed the 2023 season with a 11-3 record. Last year Pike Road captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Pike Road made a nice playoff run in 2023, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Saraland team by the score of 46-7.

       The defense allowed a team record 332 points last season.

      

       Pike Road is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only six seasons. They have managed a record of 60-15 over the past six years. Their last losing season was 1932.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Pike Road lost 6A All-State  defensive lineman Malik Blocton to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Patriots are led by head coach Granger Shook who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 11-3 record in his first season at Pike Road. The Patriots saw improvement from a 7-5 record the season before coach Shook arrived. Under his direction the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Shook. Over the course of his career, Coach Shook's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship.

Season Outlook:

       The Pike Road Patriots will play in Class 6A region two during the 2024 season.

      

       The Patriots enter the 2024 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. They have won 6 straight games on their home turf at Pike Road Stadium.

       When your leading passer and leading running back return to most any team the outlook for the upcoming season will be optimistic. Well, that's the case at Pike Road in 2024. They will need to replace 1,000 yard receiver Jordan King who graduated but return nine starters from last year including four along the line of scrimmage.

       On defense the Patriots return five starters including Braylon Outlaw who will anchor the defense from his linebacker position.

       Only three opponents on the Patriot's 2024 schedule qualified for the playoffs last season. But the non-region schedule is brutal as Pike Road will open the season on the road against 7A Prattville and Enterprise. Both are potential playoff teams. They also play Opelika and Charles Henderson later in the season.

       The Patriots should be the class of region two and host a first round playoff game come November.

    While most teams rebuild during the off season, Pike Road has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season.     The Patriots are considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Patriots are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Patriots have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1933 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      QB Cason Myers will be returning after completing 199-of-301 passes for 2,389 yards last season along with 17 touchdowns.

      RB Ja'Michael Jones will be returning for his junior season after rushing for 1,166 yards and 19 TDs last season.

      Also back will be LB Braylon Outlaw who gathered up 89 tackles (53 solo) and 13 sacks as a sophomore.

Season Opener:
       The Patriots open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Prattville on Thursday, August 22 at Stanley Jenson Stadium. Last year the Prattville Lions finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 7A region two. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to Central Phenix City by a score of 48-7.

       Pike Road and Prattville have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 1-1-1 record against the Lions. They last met in 1927 with the teams battling to a 0-0 tie.
