Alabama All-Star Game

1978

The South Football All-Stars won the 1978 classic by a score of 21-7, which was its third consecutive victory. It was the impressive running of Arkansas-bound Thomas Brown of Jeff Davis that sparked the South's victory. Brown carried the ball 16 times for 85 yards and was selected the game's Most Valuable Back.

Mike Buchanan, also of Jeff Davis, quarterbacked all three of the South's touchdowns, sneaking over in the 4th quarter himself from the one yard line, giving the South a 21 to 7 lead. Also scoring for the South, both in the opening quarter, were Charles Williams of Jess Lanier on a 26 yard scamper and Vestavia's Robert Sorrell on a 17 yard run. Thomas Boyd of Lee of Huntsville with seven individual tackles and three assists, was voted the game's Most Outstanding Lineman. Darryl Caldwell of Hayes was also outstanding for the North Stars on defense with six individual tackles and two assists.

Leading the South defensive unit was Tim NaIl of Andalusia with eight individual tackles and three assists and Willie Arnold of Thomasville, who had six individual tackles.
