 2016 Preview

Last year Cherokee finished fifth in Class 2A region 8 with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Cherokee has gone a combined 16-42. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Cherokee has managed to compile a record of 100-152. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A and 283rd in the AHSAA.

The Indians are led by head coach Lymos McDonald who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-5 record in his first season at Cherokee. The Indians have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach McDonald.

Coach McDonald's overall record as a head football coach in eleven seasons stands at 84-45 (65.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach McDonald's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won three region championships.

The Cherokee Indians will play in Class 1A region 8 during the 2016 season. The Indians may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region 8 this year.

The Indians have a good chance to earn one of the playoff slots for Region 8 this season.

The Indians open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent R.A. Hubbard on Thursday, August 18 at R.A. Hubbard Stadium. Last year the R.A. Hubbard Chiefs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 1A region 8. The ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brilliant by a score of 33-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Cherokee and R.A. Hubbard have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Indians have a 2-6-0 record against the Chiefs. They last met in 2020 with R.A. Hubbard winning by a score of 47-6.
