 2016 Preview

Last year Waterloo finished seventh in Class 1A region 8 with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Cougars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Waterloo football program has struggled with a record of 5-55.

Over the past 25 seasons, Waterloo has not won much with a record of 32-110. Their 22.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 1A and 370th in the AHSAA.

The Cougars are led by head coach Brad Palmer who is entering his second season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 1-19 over the past two seasons at Waterloo. The Cougars have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Palmer.

Coach Palmer's overall record as a head football coach in two seasons stands at 1-19 (5.0%).

The Cougars enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

The Waterloo Cougars will play in Class 1A region 8 during the 2016 season.

This season, the Cougars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in Region 8.

The Cougars open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Alabama School Deaf on Friday, August 19 at Kiwanis Field. Last year the Alabama School Deaf Silent Warriors finished with an overall record of 3-5 and in place in Class region 0. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Victory Christian by a score of 40-8.

Waterloo and Alabama School Deaf have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Cougars have a 3-1-0 record against the Silent Warriors. They last met in 2016 with Waterloo winning by a score of 40-0.
