2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hazel Green completed the 2016 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Hazel Green just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region eight with a 4-3 region record. The Trojans have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017. Since 2010, Hazel Green has gone a combined 37-35. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 6A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hazel Green has managed to compile a record of 93-171. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 6A and 319th in the AHSAA. The Trojans are led by head coach Will Wagnon who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-10 over the past two seasons at Hazel Green. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wagnon. Coach Wagnon's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 48-32 (60.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wagnon's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship. The Hazel Green Trojans will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2017 season. The Trojans will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season. Hazel Green came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. Jordan Seymour returns for his Senior season after completing 149 of 249 passes for 1,636 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also rushed for 438 yards and another 6 scores. Junior Deontae Beauchamp returns after catching 48 passes for 456 yards and 3 touchdowns. The defense returns Senior middle linebacker Jacob Anderson who registered 76 tackles and Senior OLB Simeon Montgomery who registered 4 sacks for 37 yards in losses last season. The Trojans open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Buckhorn on Friday, September 1 at Tommy R. Ledbetter Stadium. Last year the Buckhorn Bucks finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in sixth place in Class 7A region four. The Bucks ended last season on a positive note with a win over North Jackson by a score of 42-23 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Hazel Green and Buckhorn have met a total of 63 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 23-39-1 record against the Bucks. They last met in 2016 with Buckhorn winning by a score of 35-15. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
