2022 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
B.C. Rain finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region one, the Red Raiders earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. B.C. Rain's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Demopolis by a score of 49-6. It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Red Raiders qualified for the playoffs. B.C. Rain was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Red Raiders want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.9 points a game. The Red Raiders would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, the B.C. Rain football program has struggled with a record of 31-91. Over the past 25 seasons, B.C. Rain has managed to compile a record of 102-161. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 5A and 299th in the AHSAA. The Red Raiders are led by head coach Lawrence Yelding who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-23 over the past three seasons at B.C. Rain. Under his direction the Red Raiders have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Yelding. Coach Yelding's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 7-23 (23.3%). The B.C. Rain Red Raiders will play in Class 5A region one during the 2022 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Red Raiders if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. The Red Raiders open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Excel on Friday, August 19 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Excel Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 3A region one. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Monroe County by a score of 54-8 after failing to gain a playoff spot. B.C. Rain and Excel have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Red Raiders have a 1-1-0 record against the Panthers.
