2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Brindlee Mountain finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Brindlee Mountain finished seventh in Class 3A region seven with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Lions have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Lions have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2018. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Brindlee Mountain averaged scoring just 11.0 points a game. The Lions also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 36.6 points a game. The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Brindlee Mountain football program has struggled with a record of 10-70. Over the past 12 seasons, Brindlee Mountain has not won much with a record of 14-106. Their 12.0% winning percentage ranks 58th in Class 3A and 381st in the AHSAA. The Lions have struggled on the football field with no winning seasons during this time. The Lions are led by head coach Keith Garner who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Brindlee Mountain. The Lions saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Garner arrived. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Garner. Coach Garner's overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 36-107 (25.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Garner's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Brindlee Mountain Lions will play in Class 3A region seven during the 2018 season. This season, the Lions will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. The Lions open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Asbury on Friday, August 24. Last year the Asbury Rams finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 2A region six. The Rams closed out the regular season with a loss to Southeastern by a score of 48-12. Brindlee Mountain and Asbury have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Lions have a 2-5-0 record against the Rams.
