2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Horseshoe Bend finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Horseshoe Bend finished seventh in Class 2A region five with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Generals last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Horseshoe Bend was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Generals want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.9 points a game. Since 2010, Horseshoe Bend has gone a combined 29-54. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Horseshoe Bend has not won much with a record of 82-168. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 2A and 327th in the AHSAA. The Generals are led by head coach Josh Averett who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Horseshoe Bend. The Generals have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Averett. Coach Averett's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 14-27 (34.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Averett's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Horseshoe Bend Generals will play in Class 2A region four during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Generals remain in 2A but move from region five over to region four. It will be an uphill battle for the Generals if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. The Generals open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Dadeville on Thursday, August 23 at Battle Stadium. Last year the Dadeville Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 4A region three. Horseshoe Bend and Dadeville have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Generals have a 0-10-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2011 with Dadeville winning by a score of 54-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
