2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cold Springs finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Cold Springs finished seventh in Class 2A region seven with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles lost as many games as in any season since 2011. The Eagles last playoff victory came during the 1993 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Cold Springs averaged scoring just 7.1 points a game. Since 2010, Cold Springs has gone a combined 29-54. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cold Springs has not won much with a record of 77-169. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 2A and 332nd in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Rodney Elliott who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 51-54 over the past ten seasons at Cold Springs. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Elliott. Coach Elliott's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 51-54 (48.6%). The Cold Springs Eagles will play in Class 2A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 2A but move from region seven over to region five. The Eagles enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. The Eagles open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Meek on Thursday, August 23 at Eagle Stadium. Last year the Meek Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 1A region seven. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 34-7. Cold Springs and Meek have met a total of 35 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 15-20-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2007 with Meek winning by a score of 13-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
