2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Randolph County finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Randolph County finished eighth in Class 2A region four with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Randolph County took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2013. The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 1999. The defense allowed a team record 478 points last season. The Tigers hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just one game which followed a 7-4 record in 2020. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Randolph County averaged scoring just 11.8 points a game. The Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 47.8 points a game. Since 2010, Randolph County has gone a combined 96-46. Their 67.6% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Randolph County has managed to compile a record of 182-108. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 3A and 73rd in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Pat Prestridge who is entering his seventeenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 133-61 over the past sixteen seasons at Randolph County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times. They have won one region crown with Coach Prestridge. Coach Prestridge led to a state championship in 2003. Coach Prestridge's overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 150-84 (64.1%). His 150 wins rank 29th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Prestridge's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won one region championship. The Randolph County Tigers will play in Class 3A region four during the 2022 season. The Tigers move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Tigers enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. The Tigers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Woodland on Friday, August 26 at Sewell Field. Last year the Woodland Bobcats finished with an overall record of 5-8 and in fourth place in Class 1A region five. The Bobcats lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Wadley by a score of 27-0. Randolph County and Woodland have met a total of 80 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 54-24-2 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2021 with Randolph County winning by a score of 40-34. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
