2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Horseshoe Bend finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Horseshoe Bend finished seventh in Class 2A region four with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Generals last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Horseshoe Bend was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Generals want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.1 points a game. The Generals would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Horseshoe Bend has gone a combined 37-86. Their 30.1% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Horseshoe Bend has not won much with a record of 78-180. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 2A and 348th in the AHSAA. The Generals are led by head coach Jeremy Phillips who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 6-24 over the past three seasons at Horseshoe Bend. The Generals have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Phillips. Coach Phillips' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 6-24 (20.0%). The Horseshoe Bend Generals will play in Class 2A region three during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Generals remain in 2A but move from region four over to region three. It will be an uphill battle for the Generals if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. The Generals open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Wadley on Friday, August 19 at Battle Stadium. Last year the Wadley Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 13-2 and in first place in Class 1A region five. The Bulldogs lost in the Class 1A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Sweet Water. They final score was 40-16 in the Super Seven finals in Birmingham. Horseshoe Bend and Wadley have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Generals have a 13-18-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2021 with Wadley winning by a score of 27-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
