 2022 Preview 


       Selma completed the 2021 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region three, the Saints earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Selma's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to St. Pauls by a score of 36-0.

       Selma was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Saints want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.3 points a game.

       Since 2010, Selma has gone a combined 57-69. Their 45.2% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Selma has managed to compile a record of 101-149. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 5A and 283rd in the AHSAA.




       The Saints are led by head coach Willie Gandy who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 18-16 over the past three seasons at Selma. Under his direction the Saints have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Gandy.

       Coach Gandy's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 18-16 (52.9%).

       The Selma Saints will play in Class 5A region three during the 2022 season.

       The Saints will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season.

       The Saints open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Beauregard on Friday, August 19 at Hornet Stadium. Last year the Beauregard Hornets finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 5A region four. The Hornets ended last season on a positive note with a win over Holt by a score of 35-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Selma and Beauregard have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Saints have a 0-2-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in with

       Selma returns 5A All-State Senior defensive back Dakaari Nelson. He was named to the first team last season.
