 2024 Preview

B.B. Comer completed the 2023 season with a 13-1 record. The Tigers cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year B.B. Comer captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. B.B. Comer made a nice playoff run in 2023, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Reeltown team by the score of 31-28.

The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 1995. The 564 points scored by the Tigers last year were a team record in a single season.

The high-scoring B.B. Comer offense ranked 25th in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.3 points a game.

The Tigers defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 12th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 10.0 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Tigers have Finished 25-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, the B.B. Comer football program has struggled with a record of 74-83.

Over the past 25 seasons, B.B. Comer has managed to compile a record of 103-166. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 3A and 297th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
B.B. Comer lost 2A All-State  running back Kamore Harris to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates offensive lineman Chris Wilson and defensive back Devin Harvey.

Head Coach:
The Tigers are led by head coach Adam Fossett who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 52-23 over the past six seasons at B.B. Comer. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Fossett. His 107 wins rank 58th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Fossett's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won three region championships.

Season Outlook:

The B.B. Comer Tigers will play in Class 3A region four during the 2024 season. The Tigers move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

The Tigers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 74-40 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 3A and 13th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers enter the 2024 season having won 7 straight region games.

The Tigers will also open the 2024 football season without the services of running back Kamore Harris who graduated in the spring along with the 1,422 yards and 24 touchdowns he scored last year. He will also be missed on the defensive side of the football.

B.B. Comer will face nine teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. The Tigers under Coach Fossett have qualified for the playoffs in each of the past five seasons and have hopes of extending that streak in 2024.

Expectations remain the same for the Tigers in 2024. Coach Fossett said they have ''refocused this summer on being a better team and being better teammates.'' Twelve starters from last year's squad graduated with three signing college scholarships. Those losses and the move to 3A will make the path to the playoffs a little more difficult. This will be a very competitive region.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, B.B. Comer has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season.     The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Returning Starters:
CB Raelon Sims, RB Tristan Garrett, RB Camron Gaddis, CB/WR Cristian Jemison, WR/DB Richard Weed, CB Michael Kirksey

Season Opener:
The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Wadley on Friday, August 23 at Legion Stadium. Last year the Wadley Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 11-2 and in first place in Class 1A region six. The Bulldogs lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 18-14.

B.B. Comer and Wadley have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 1-1-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 1941 with B.B. Comer winning by a score of 13-0.
