2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Chilton County completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Chilton County finished sixth in Class 6A region three with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Since 2010, Chilton County has gone a combined 55-90. Their 37.9% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Chilton County has managed to compile a record of 100-160. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 6A and 311st in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Chilton County lost 6A All-State athlete Demarcus Riddick to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate linebacker Demarion Caffey. Coaching Change: Marvin Morton parted ways with Chilton County after just two seasons at the helm with an 8-12 record and no playoff appearances. Both his squads finished with a 4-6 record. Coach Morton was also the head coach at Billingsley in 2018 with a 5-6 record. The Tigers have not won a playoff game since 2012 and only two since 1987. This will be the seventh different head football coach over the course of the last twenty seasons in Clanton. 2024 Head Coach: Eddie Wall has been named as the next head football coach at Chilton County as we enter the 2024 football season. Wall spent the last six seasons as the defensive coordinator at Leeds High School and this will be his first head coaching job. Wall also spent time at Clay-Chalkville High School as the defensive line coach prior to Leeds. He is a native of Oak Mountain where he played football. Season Outlook: The Chilton County Tigers will play in Class 6A region three during the 2024 season. The Tigers entered last season with high expectations but those were quickly diminished after starting the season 1-4 against some very good competition. A new head coach but the first five games will once again prove to be difficult to navigate for the Tigers in Clanton. The Tigers have not reached the playoffs since 2019 and have not won a playoff game since 2012. Eddie Wall takes over the reins and will try to right the ship. The program is not in terrible shape but will need some improvement to qualify for a playoff spot in Region 3. With the addition of Spain Park and Chelsea to the region it will be a fight for that fourth playoff spot in 2024. Of the current teams in the region only two made the playoffs last year. The Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Chilton County has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2019 but hope to return to the post season this year. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Logan Coppedge will be returning after completing 131-of-234 passes for 1,701 yards and 15 TDs last season. CB Justin Godwin collected 86 tackles (49 solo) including 10 sacks and will be back for his senior season. DE Dontae Franklin will also return after racking up 84 tackles (50 solo) including 7 sacks. Returning Starters: QB Logan Coppedge, CB Justin Godwin, DE Dontae Franklin, WR Marco Simon, ATH/WR Luke Moatts, RB Nyzaiah Dejarnett, Jake Payton, DL Ricardo Parker, RB Spencer Gregory Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Bibb County on Friday, August 23 at Choctaw Stadium. Last year the Bibb County Choctaws finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 4A region three. The Choctaws lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Jacksonville by a score of 28-21. Chilton County and Bibb County have met a total of 75 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 34-38-3 record against the Choctaws. They last met in 2023 with Bibb County winning by a score of 33-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
