2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lee-Scott Academy completed the 2023 season with a 11-1 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class AAA region one, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Lee-Scott Academy reached the AISA-AAA Championship Game and defeated Glenwood School by a score of 24-14. The defense was very stingy last season as Lee-Scott Academy ranked 11th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 9.8 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Warriors have Finished 23-1 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Lee-Scott Academy has gone a combined 92-62. Their 59.7% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lee-Scott Academy has managed to compile a record of 149-120. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 3A and 148th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: The Warriors lost a ton of talent to graduation off the 2023 squad. Replacing these players will be a key to another successful season. Lee-Scott Academy lost AISA All-State receiver Jake White to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates offensive lineman Conner Stewart, kicker Matthew Rolader, running back Jonathan Meyers, offensive lineman Jackson Lee and linebacker Sam Jackson. Head Coach: The Warriors are led by head coach Buster Daniel who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 33-11 over the past four seasons at Lee-Scott Academy. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Daniel. Coach Daniel has won two state championships at Lee-Scott Academy, the last coming in 2023. Over the course of his career, Coach Daniel's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won two region championships. Season Outlook: The Lee-Scott Academy Warriors will play in Class 3A region four during the 2024 season. The Warriors have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 83-33 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 3A and 2nd in the AHSAA. The Warriors enter the 2024 season riding a 8 game winning streak. They have also won 6 consecutive regular season games. They have won 15 straight games on their home turf at Judd Scott Field. The Lee-Scott Academy Warriors will open play in the AHSAA for the first time in 2024. They will do it without the services of last year's starting wide receiver Jake White who caught 90 passes for 1,506 yards and 15 touchdowns. He graduated in the spring. The Warriors won the last two state championships in the AISA so it may not be a huge stretch of the imagination for them to be competitive right away in the AHSAA. The Warriors will face eight teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. With the AHSAA realignment region 4 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Four of those teams won at least 10 games. Someone will be left out of the post season come November. The Warriors are considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Pelzer Reaves will be returning for his senior season after completing 119-of-166 passes for 2,176 yards and 25 TDs last season. Returning Starters: RB/LB Tyler Kennedy, WR/FS Brady Cegielski, WR/CB Harrison Short, OL Cam Arwood, FS/WR Hutchins Blowmeyer, DE/TE Thomas Dilworth, OL/DL Carter Gibson, LB Christian Horak, LB/DL Sam Jackson, DL/OL Hayden Kelly, OLB Beau King, OL/DL Walker Lane, OLB/WR Allen Owen, QB Pelzer Reaves, OL Max Shiver, LB/RB Banks Sims, LB Hayes Wagoner, LB/RB Brooks Zachary Season Opener: The Warriors open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Excel on Friday, August 23 at Judd Scott Field. Last year the Excel Panthers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 3A region one. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Southern Choctaw by a score of 42-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot. This will be the second meeting between Lee-Scott Academy and Excel on the football field. The Warriors have a 1-0-0 record against the Panthers.
