Alabama All-Star Game

1975

The South and North All-Stars battled almost 3 quarters without mounting a successful scoring drive. The kicking game was supposed to be the South's strong suit, but late in the third period Harris Rabren, of Andalusia, the South's punter, muffed the snap and Kenny Cook, from Cleburne County, picked the ball up on the South's 3 yard line and raced into the end zone for a touchdown as time ran out for the third period. Ray Dyer, of Hanceville, kicked the extra point to put the North in the lead 7-0.

However, on the ensuing kickoff the South marched 72 yards with the aid of a 15 yard penalty for a touchdown. Again the South's vaunted kicking game misfired as Rabren's kick was wide to the left. With 5:40 left in the game the South's Joe Latham, from Escambia County, recovered a fumbled handoff at the North's 27.

The South moved the ball to the North 11 yard line and with 2:47 left on the clock the stage was set for the kicking game to put the South in the lead, but it was not to be as Rabren's kick was wide to the left and the North had no trouble running out the clock for a 7-6 victory. The North's Tennessee bound Kelsey Finch, from Sheffield, was selected the game's outstanding back and Alabama bound Vince Booth, from Fairhope, was named the outstanding lineman.
