Alexandria completed the 2017 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region seven, the Valley Cubs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Alexandria's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Wenonah by a score of 40-14. Since 2010, Alexandria has gone a combined 68-41. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 29 seasons, Alexandria has gone a combined 211-75. The Valley Cubs will be under the direction of new head football coach Todd Ginn as they enter the 2018 season. The Alexandria Valley Cubs will play in Class 5A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Valley Cubs remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region six. Alexandria enters the 2018 season with a string of 8 consecutive wins on their home field at Lou Scales Stadium. The Valley Cubs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Valley Cubs open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Talladega on Friday, August 24 at Mary Dumas Stadium. Last year the Talladega Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 5A region four. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Carroll by a score of 12-6. Alexandria and Talladega have met a total of 13 times on the football field.
