2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Alma Bryant finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Alma Bryant finished seventh in Class 7A region one with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Hurricanes last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Alma Bryant was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Hurricanes want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.2 points a game. The Hurricanes would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, the Alma Bryant football program has struggled with a record of 20-82. Over the past 24 seasons, Alma Bryant has not won much with a record of 84-166. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 7A and 304th in the AHSAA. The Hurricanes have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2003. The Hurricanes are led by head coach Doug Hoehn who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Alma Bryant. The Hurricanes saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Hoehn arrived. The Hurricanes have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hoehn. Coach Hoehn's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 36-38 (48.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Hoehn's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Alma Bryant Hurricanes will play in Class 7A region one during the 2018 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Hurricanes if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. The Hurricanes open the 2018 season at home against region opponent Davidson on Friday, August 31 at Hurricane Stadium. Last year the Davidson Warriors finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 7A region one. The Warriors lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Auburn by a score of 23-7. Alma Bryant and Davidson have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Hurricanes have a 7-20-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2017 with Davidson winning by a score of 41-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
