New Brockton completed the 2017 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region three, the Gamecocks earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. New Brockton's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to St. Lukes by a score of 42-21. New Brockton took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2012. Since 2010, New Brockton has gone a combined 46-41. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 2A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, New Brockton has managed to compile a record of 125-130. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 2A and 188th in the AHSAA. The Gamecocks are led by head coach Justin Jones who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 28-17 over the past four seasons at New Brockton. Under his direction the Gamecocks have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jones. Coach Jones' overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 36-29 (55.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jones' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times . The New Brockton Gamecocks will play in Class 2A region three during the 2018 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Gamecocks could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season. The Gamecocks open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Providence Christian on Friday, August 24. Last year the Providence Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 3A region two. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Gordo by a score of 34-7. New Brockton and Providence Christian have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Gamecocks have a 2-10-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2015 with New Brockton winning by a score of 20-13. New Brockton returns 2A All-State defensive lineman Josh Cardwell. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Gamecocks also return punter Russell Weeks.
