Madison Academy completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region seven, the Mustangs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Madison Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hokes Bluff by a score of 12-10. The defense was very stingy last season as Madison Academy ranked 38th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.7 points a game. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Madison Academy has gone a combined 93-19. Their 83.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Madison Academy has managed to compile a record of 172-112. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 5A and 88th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2002. The Mustangs are led by head coach Grant Reynolds who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 18-8 over the past two seasons at Madison Academy. Coach Reynolds' overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 18-8 (69.2%). The Madison Academy Mustangs will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2018 season. The Mustangs move up in classification to Class 5A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Madison Academy has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Mustangs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2008 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2018. The Mustangs open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent McCallie TN on Friday, August 24. Madison Academy and McCallie TN have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 0-2-0 record against McCallie TN. They last met in 2017 with McCallie TN winning by a score of 44-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
