2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
North Jackson finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year North Jackson finished sixth in Class 4A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. North Jackson took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2013. North Jackson was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Chiefs want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.2 points a game. Since 2010, North Jackson has gone a combined 55-37. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, North Jackson has gone a combined 195-83. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 4A and 32nd in the AHSAA. The Chiefs have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. The Chiefs are led by head coach Mark Rose who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 107-37 over the past twelve seasons at North Jackson. Under his direction the Chiefs have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times. They have won seven region crowns with Coach Rose. Coach Rose's overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 161-74 (68.5%). His 161 wins rank 24th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Rose's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won nine region championships. The North Jackson Chiefs will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2018 season. The Chiefs enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Chiefs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. North Jackson came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Chiefs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Plainview on Friday, August 31 at R.D. Hicks Stadium. Last year the Plainview Bears finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in first place in Class 3A region seven. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Weaver by a score of 30-29. North Jackson and Plainview have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Chiefs have a 4-3-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2009 with Plainview winning by a score of 14-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
