2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
B.T. Washington completed the 2021 season with a 4-6 record. Last year B.T. Washington just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region two with a 3-4 region record. The Golden Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. Since 2010, the B.T. Washington football program has struggled with a record of 31-87. Over the past 25 seasons, B.T. Washington has not won much with a record of 67-178. Their 27.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 4A and 363rd in the AHSAA. The Golden Eagles have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Lawrence ONeal who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at B.T. Washington. The Golden Eagles saw improvement from a 1-8 record the season before coach ONeal arrived. The Golden Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach ONeal. Coach ONeal's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 4-6 (40.0%). The B.T. Washington Golden Eagles will play in Class 4A region two during the 2022 season. The Golden Eagles have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 83-38 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 4A and 1st in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Golden Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. The Golden Eagles open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Trinity on Thursday, August 18 at Ragsdale-Boykin Field. Last year the Trinity Wildcats finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 3A region four. The Wildcats lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Montgomery Academy by a score of 21-17. B.T. Washington and Trinity have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Golden Eagles have a 0-4-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2019 with Trinity winning by a score of 43-12. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
