2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Billingsley completed the 2021 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region four, the Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Billingsley's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Sweet Water by a score of 49-0. Billingsley was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bears want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.7 points a game. Since 2010, Billingsley has gone a combined 68-64. Their 51.5% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Billingsley has managed to compile a record of 137-137. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 1A and 187th in the AHSAA. The Bears will be under the direction of new head football coach Lanny Jones as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Jones served on the staff at Gulf Shores last season. Coach Jones' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 21-23 (47.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jones' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Billingsley Bears will play in Class 1A region four during the 2022 season. The Bears have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 59-48 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 1A and 100th in the AHSAA. With a little luck and some improvement, the Bears could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. The Bears open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Prattville Christian on Friday, August 19 at Mims Field. Last year the Prattville Christian Panthers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 3A region three. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Vincent by a score of 34-6. Billingsley and Prattville Christian have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Bears have a 7-3-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2021 with Billingsley winning by a score of 13-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
