1954
In 1954, the South nosed out the North 7-6, on an 86-yard kickoff return by Clay Walls from McAdory. George Salem of Ramsay made the extra point from placement. Despite the loss, the north squad dominated every department except the all-important scoring.
Jerry McBee, a big fullback from Ensley, scored early in the game as the North dominated the first half. McBee went over in four plays after Gary Snyder's recovery of a fumble on the South 16. McBee and Snyder, a tackle from Gadsden, were voted the outstanding players of the game. Jimmy Phillips, a 203 pound end from Alexander City, played a tremendous defensive game.
The North was coached by K. O. Miller, Emma Sansom, Head Coach; Oliver Woodard, Double Springs; W. D. Cornelius, Carbon Hill; Joe Chorba, Guntersville; and Milton Heath, Emma Sansom. The South's coaches were L. C. (Luke) Whetstone, Greenville, Head Coach; LeVaughn Hanks, Monroeville; L. C. Garner, McAdory; James Key, Greensboro; and James Thomas, Tuskegee.
