Alabama All-Star Game
1956
The ninth All-Star football game ended in the first scoreless tie of the series. The South then held a 4-3 edge with two games having ended in ties.
An underdog South team had to stop two scoring thrusts by the North in the fourth quarter to gain the even break. The Northerners dominated play and led the statistics. They came near to scoring four times, going to the 28, the 24, the 17 and all the way to the goal line on one occasion -- when Greenville's Bobby Wasden recovered a fumble for the South. Voted most valuable were Cecil Hurt of Woodlawn and James Hubbert of Fayette in the the backfield, and Guard Don Cochran of Woodlawn in the line.
North coaches were Kenny Morgan, Woodlawn, Head Coach; John W. Cox, Childersburg; Herman (Bubba) Scott, Haleyville; Homer Wesley, Cullman; and Norman Moseley, Talladega. South Head Coach Doug Moseley of Lanier was assisted by Ivan Jones, Foley; Chick Pilkington, LaFayette; Tom Banks, John Carroll of Birmingham; and Pearino Gaither, Elba.
