Alabama All-Star Game

In a game loosely played, the South stars emerged with a 3-0 victory for their fourth straight triumph in the 32-year-old series. A 25-yard field goal by Slocomb's Fletcher Green midway of the third quarter provided the only points of the game.

The South, which has won five of the last six All-Star Classics, had two touchdowns nullified by clipping and motion penalties, lost three of its seven fumbles and had a pass intercepted by the North's Donnie Cook of Bradshaw.

The North, which generated only 50 yards of offense and never moved the ball past the South 32, lost the ball twice on fumbles and another time on a pass interception by Milton Hudgens of Slocomb. Michael Landrum directed the South offense which gained 152 yards rushing, 53 by game leader Earl Collins of Davidson.

Joe Rowe of R.E. Lee in Montgomery was voted the game's most valuable lineman after getting one sack, three other tackles and a fumble recovery. Bruce Thompson of Lee in Huntsville was most valuable back after recovering a fumble, making three solo tackles, and leading the North defense which permitted only one pass completion.

Rowe and Thompson staged a punting duel. Rowe averaged 44.2 yards on five kicks (58 the longest) while Thompson averaged 45.2 on eight kicks (54 the longest).
